4 Stars It’s a start, anyway — Amazon has a great price, too!
I guess you could say when it come to ease of use — in terms of just setting up this gizmo and running monitor adjustments — it gets 4 stars, maybe 5, for ease of use. Install the software in a minute, position the sensor, start the program, lie to the software and say your monitor has no controls of any kind (Spyder will then kick off a completely automated, hands-free scan), and less than 10 minutes later you’re home free. Unfortunately after over a dozen runs on 3 of my monitors, it’s evident that Spyder’s programmers are fascinated, maybe even obsessed, with the color RED. They must figure the redder the better, I guess. Finally I ignored one of their iron-clad rules: rather than leave the room totally dark or covering my monitor with a blanket during the scans, I turned on the rather subdued, soft lighting I use for PC video work (who the %$#&* works in total darkness? Do you? You can’t even see your keyboard!). With some gentle ambient worklight (tungsten) nearby, I finally got a really nice adjustment from Spyder. Did a teentsy bit of tweaking with some of DVE’s tv test patterns, and now it’s about right. Tip: Don’t calibrate in total darkness, run it in the same light you use for PC work, short of flashing strobes and circus floodlights. Caution: this will not make games or videos look “better” on your PC. Media players, games, and most other Windows programs have no way of recognizing .icm color profiles. Photoshop Pro does ($600), and Sony Vegas Pro does ($800), and a few Windows games that need $400 graphics cards — but Windows Media Player, PowerDVD, most freebie photo printing programs, most Kodak photo-CD browsers, most consumer video editors, and most digital camera utilities do not use Windows or Mac color profiles. For that you’ll have to run a manual setup on your CRT and push your own sliders. Sorry, LCD’s have notoriously goofy picture controls, so don’t be surprised if manual doesn’t work with LCD’s (anyone who uses LCD’s for graphics work is fighting a losing battle anyway). Subtract 1 star because Spyder2 told me that before adjustment my monitor was too green. It wasn’t. It was too blue. Otherwise, Spyder2 on auto did neat, quick work on 3 monitors and two laptops. With some qualifications in mind, I’d recommend Spyder2 over the usual calibration videos or test pics.

3 Stars Terrible software
Seems like it would be a great product if the software wasn’t so bad. The profile chooser software is terrible. Constant messages and errors and they still haven’t fixed it. I have to constantly select the correct color profile at bootup and nothing I’ve tried seems to fix that. When I do run with the color profile, it’s great though, so I give it 3 stars. 5 is the software was good.

1 Star Not worth the effort
I received the Spyder2 Suite on April 3, 2008. Installation was straight forward with no problems. It appears to do what it says it will do, however, two weeks later when it was time to recalibrae, found a problem. The recalibration would reach the point of “Adjust Color Temperature Preset”. Next step should be “Attach colorimeter to screen” but it bypassed this step and went to “Remove colorimeter” and loops back and forth between these two steps. Finally I would have to close the program. The only way I can recalibrate the monitor is uninstall and reinstall the software.

Went on line and registered with Datacolor (Colorvision) and they said I would receive an email so as to validate my email address. To this date (May l7, 2008) haven’t received anything from them. After two weeks and no email, sent them an email explaining the situtation and ask for help in this matter. Still haven’t received anything from Datacolor. Called their 800 support line and was told that he couldn’t help as his departmnet doesn’t handle the problem of not receiving emails, but he did give me an email address for downloading v2.3 as I was using v2.2. My AT&T browser said it couldn’t find the address. Finally sent a letter, by mail, to the General Manager directly, asking for help on this matter, as you can’t receive support or download software updates without being registered. That has been two weeks now and no reply. So I guess this is my problem now and it appears Datacolor just doesn’t care about it’s customers. Also didn’t find out that the Spyder2 Express and Spyder2 Suite are discontinued products until almost a month after purchasing. I would go to another company.

I would have gave Spyder2 Suite 4 maybe 5 stars if I wasn’t having the problem and could get support. I didn’t purchase it for profiling the printer as other previews said this sucked anyway. The Suite has more options than the Express.

UPDATE (May 19,2008)

After trying one more time, I called the 800 support line and explained my problem again and was transfered to someone else to resolve this issue of not receiving an email so as to validate my account. While my email address was registered with Colorvision (Datacolor) it couldn’t be explained why I couldn’t receive an email from them. Tried registering with an disposable email address and this worked. I was able to click on the link and validate and was able to download v2.3. After uninstalling v2.2 and installing v2.3 it would still skip the step of “Attach colorimater”. Only by deleting the profile created by Spyder2 by going to Control Panel>Display>Advanced>Color Management was I able to calibrate, and right afterwards to make sure I could, recalibrate the monitor, but by only deleting the profile created first. If I don’t, it will bypass the step of attaching the colorimeter.

I will now give it a 4 STAR RATING and not a 5 star because of all the problems experienced and would recommend this product to others.

4 Stars Will improve your display’s color reproduction!
I was surprised how much it changed the color reproduction on the monitors — especially since I wasn’t really sure the monitors needed calibration. The first calibration on the 17″ MacBook Pro did NOT produce good results; Apple recommends using a target gamma of 1.8 so that was what I initially used and the resulting calibration was horrible. I reran the calibration using the target gamma recommended by Spyder (i.e., 2.2) and got great results. Since then I’ve calibrated two other monitors and gotten very good results — the tones look truer and the colors are more vibrant. My only regret is that I didn’t shell out the extra $$ for the Pro version so that the software would remembered which monitor was being calibrated.

1 Star Played DVD’s, but would not play Blu-Ray
Amazon was great, got me the unit in 2-days. Everything was great, it worked on all CD’s and DVDs so the kids where happy. But then my box set of 007 Blu-ray disk arrived and they didn’t work. I tried three disk and they would load the menu, I choose something, and then it would restart the menu. I was lucky to have a wireless internal connection from my DVR sitting right there and decided to try to upgrade the firmware. It took 3 reboots to get the network working on the player, but it finally connected their site. I took over an hour to download the firmware, and my DSL line is 1-MB/s. When the upgrade finished the BLu-Ray disk started to work. It’s a below average player and I shouldn’t have to upgrade it to play Blu-Ray disk. I should have stuck with plan A, just buy a PS3.

5 Stars Blu-Ray does not limit you to Blu-Ray!
I have a 2-year old Sony NS3100ES receiver that plays every format and outputs stereo or 5.1 surround sound. The picture is clear and the sound is impeccable. Why would I go out and spend literally $300 to $1,000 for a player that plays Blu-Ray discs?

Samsung’s BD-P1500 is sleek, compact and has so many more functions than other players. It will play regular DVD’s, CD’, SACD’s, DVD-R, DVD-RW, home made DVD’s and much more. The HDMI to HDMI cable is the best to use if your television has that port, as it carries the most data most efficiently (you can buy it here on Amazon). You can also connect to a regular TV or sound system with R/B/G cables (video) and R/W cables (audio). Whatever connection or system, it will play stereo to surround sound.

The entire world of Blu-Ray discs is another topic. They have a new optical disc format with over five and a half times the storage capacity of a standard DVD. This means you have more data and extras (like a storyboard guide at the bottom of the screen, display the title list, repeat play to specific points on the Blu-Ray disc, changing the camera angel of the movie, `bookmark’ a specific scene spot and much more). There is also a LAN/Ethernet terminal output for updating software from Samsung (most electronic companies upgrade to improve quality over time).

The biggest selling point of all is the massive amount of data that can be played compared to regular DVD players. The picture is SO amazingly crisp (a Full 1080/24p True Cinema picture), I’d much rather prefer viewing a Blu-Ray disc over a regular DVD. The sound is crystal clear (Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD), either in stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 (something I never thought could be improved upon with my Sony DVD player). Now at this price, you can have the new experience of Blu-Ray entertainment. It seems that prices do come down and quality does go up.

Note: Most of the on-line rental companies (Netflix, Blockbuster, etc.) have most of the Blu-Ray discs in stock!

5 Stars AWESOME BLURAY PLAYER!!!
This is an excellent bluray player. I must say that the picture quality is just amazing. At first I was worried about getting the Samsung BD-P1500 bluray player because a lot of reviews complained that it freezes,skips chapters, or stops accepting discs. I’ve had mines for almost two weeks and haven’t experienced a single problem at all, and I didn’t even have to update it with the firmware. All the movies I played on it work perfectly and the dvd 1080p upscaling is excellent. All my dvds look fantastic and have better picture quality than before. Setup was a breeze; I connected this bluray player via 1.3 hdmi cable to my Samsung LN46a650 LCD tv. I watched Planet Earth Bluray and I was just blown away! The picture was so mesmerizing and just beautiful. This bluray player is definitely a winner. Overall I’m extremely happy with this bluray player!

5 Stars Blu-Ray Picture is Amazing
I was not planning on getting a blu-ray player, but this came free with the Panasonic TV we ordered on Amazon (at the time). How can you beat that!!

Needless to say, we will never go back to regular DVD! We watched Tropic Thunder the other night, the colors were so bright and the picture almost seemed 3-D at times.

Had it not been free, I might have considered a player with a few more options (or a PS3), but for a pretty basic player, works like a charm.

2 Stars Upconversion of DVDs not available on component outputs
There is much to love about this player but buyer beware. The upconversion of DVDs is only possible with the HDMI output. If you need to use the component outputs as I do, your DVDs will play at 480P not 720P or 1080P.

The network interface was trivial to setup and I was immediately able to update my firmware revision. Very nice.

5 Stars Great Upgrade from Last Year’s Blu Ray Players
I had a Sony Blu Ray Player I purchased last year. While I had generally no complaints about the player, it unfortunately did not pass a DTS Master Audio signal (only the base DTS code) to my receivier. Therefore, I upgraded this year. Based on a lot of the reviews here and on other sites, I went with the Panasonic BD35K. The first unit I received I had to return because it would not read any disc. As usual, Amazon made that easy and painless. The second unit works great. I connected via HDMI cable to my Sony receiver which can decode all the new Dolby and DTS codecs. Another HDMI cable goes from the receiver to the Sony SXRD TV. The blu ray disc films seem somewhat sharper to me than when played on the prior blu ray player. The up-convert of regular DVD discs is excellent; even better than last year’s Sony. The load times are much faster than my older blu ray player. I do not have the player connected directly to the internet so updated the firmware via file transfer, which was simple and quick. Overall, I could not be more pleased with the upgrade. Whether the unit is better than the Sony 350 which is slightly less expensive, I cannot say. I am certainly satisifed with the Sony gear I have, but I am glad I gave the Panasonic unit a try.

I bought this product based on the reviews from [...]. It was a good price and a profile 2.0 player. It has network support for easy firmware updates and additional content. The player is not sluggish at all. I first plugged it in with component cables and there was a noticeable line refresh problem so I connected with an HDMI cable and the problem is gone. You might want to consider BD55K. I did not troubleshoot the problem. It could have been the component cables. I inserted my SDHC card and it viewed pictures ok but would not show or play .AVI files…bummer!

Great player, great price. I fail to see why a person would spend more. I watched Wall-e and Tropic Thunder on my 60″ Sony KDS2000 in full 1080p – what can can I say – it blows you away. The picture quality is beautiful. The sound through my Pioneer 1018 Receiver is also incredible. The player operates without a glitch and synced seamlessly with my other components. Load time, though I didn’t time it – was certainly reasonable. My first venture into Bluray and I’m going to find it difficult to ever watch or listen to a movie in another format. Good stuff. As a bonus, it came double boxed in a flawless shipping carton. Love Amazon.

I got a new blu-ray player Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player and was having some problems with the picture dropping off. My friend suggested trying a new HDMI Cable and after doing some homework I chose this Mediabridge cable. Ordered it and got it in the mail quick. Easy to plug in and set up and now our movies look like they should! Obviously that other HDMI cable was NOT working properly even though we did pay more $$ for it! Maybe the other HDMI cable was defective but anyway everything is working great now. I also bought a toslink Mediabridge Toslink Cable – 6ft – Optical Digital Audio Cable and component cable Mediabridge Bundled RCA Component Video Cable – 6ft to hook up my cable box. They worked well also. Very happy.

1 Star This cable performed the worst in my test of three HDMI cables
Tested this product against 2 other hdmi cables and it had the lowest quality.. It washed out the colors and created a softer image. Then it started dropping the video intermittently, to where I would get no signal at all. Stay away.

This cable is very well made. Definitely seems a bit thicker than normal. Version 1.3 is printed right on the jacket. Audio and video are awesome coming out of my Sony BDP-S550 Sony BDP-S550 1080p Blu-ray Player The connectors fit tightly into both my Blu-Ray player and my PS3. The packaging was good.

After seeing the outrageous prices being charged in local stores for hdmi cables I decided to check amazon. I bought this cable for my 1080p, 120 hz 42″ LCD tv to use with my HD upscaling DVD player. It works great. My pictures are crystal clear in HD. I don’t see why anyone would want to pay the store price for one of these. In the end all the cable are the same (rubber and metal) so why pay mark up. Very content. Would recommend to anyone.

5 Stars Save your money, buy this.
These cables work just fine, but one problem, which might just be user-related.

I bought two of them, one for my PS3 and one for my DVR. My TV gave a “No Signal” error for both when I first plugged them in. I tried everything I could think of and almost gave up in frustration, accepting my failure in hoping $5 HDMI cables would function as well as the $50+ ones. Then I thought maybe to try reversing the cable, and putting the plugs in the opposite device. All of a sudden my TV dings and says 1080p. Both ends of the cable look exactly the same, but for some reason, each end has to be plugged into the correct system. Or maybe it’s just me and this is common sense, I don’t know…

Wanted to get an hdmi cable for my new Sony 1080p set to connect to TiVo HD. Looked around and didn’t feel like paying store prices (ridiculous). Much to my delight there were loads of choices and very cheap. Ordered it, came pretty fast, plugged it in, and it just worked. This is how things in the world should work. Maybe all the other inexpensive cables work just as well–probably do. I just know that in my case this one has worked fine for about a month now. Going to get another one.

Got the cable for my time warner dvr and a brand new samsung series 7 LCD tv. At first had trouble getting it to work with the crappy cable box and most blogs online reported the problem. Supposedly HDMI 1.3 doesn’t work with older boxes. Not true, all you have to do is make sure in devices setting on your box(rather than audio settings) you have HDMI selected for audio output. If you are still confused called the cable company and they will explain…

Cable works perfectly well, don’t get ripped off by buying $90 cable in the store…

5 Stars Great TV, Great Price!!
So far I have been very happy with this TV, I bought it to use as a bedroom TV.

Now, I have had and HD TV in my living room for a few years now (another Sony) and now that I have this one I see some of the changes made to the newer TVs and now I want to replace the living room TV because of these changes. Seems like there have been some very nice ’software’ upgrades as far as the menu system and some of the features I wish my older TV had.

I didn’t buy it from Amazon but I did get it for the same price. Very good price for a very good TV. Very impressive HD picture, and I have it hooked up to my computer and it makes a great monitor. If I wish something was different I would like change the source of the PIP window when using my computer, as it stands right now this can not be done I can only watch an over the air antenna while using my computer.

Over all great product for a great price, just shop around.

I love this television. The picture is gorgeous and requires no adjustments. I’m using it with my DirecTV HD connection. 720P is just fine for this screen size – you really don’t need 1080P and couldn’t probably tell the difference on a 32″ screen.

It’s a great TV for the money. Excellent picture quality coupled with intuitive menus reinforce my decision to go with Sony. For 720P the picture is sharp and clear, slight blurring on fast moving objects, but that’s common on LCD’s, at least with today’s technology. Shipping was fast and free, what’s not to like.

Amazon changes the rules after they take your money. The original order I made said Electronic Express, then they changed it to another shipping priorty without notifying me. I called them and I reached a gentlemen who gave me a order number to go to Electronic Express to determine when my TV would be shipped. Electronic Express of course did not recognize the order number and told me to go back to Amazon. I called a second time and reached a lady.. clearly from India who would NOT divert from her script she was given and kept repeating the same thing over and over. I called back.. got a guy from India.. Suprise.. he loved his script too. But I told him he could not qualify for customer service, but more of a narator of a very entertaining script of we have your money.. we dont care if it takes 3 months to get your tv. I am sure Amazon will take this rating down as soon as they see it. Hopefully I will educate a potential buyer on Amazon from making the same mistake I made. I would not purchase from them again and I will most certainly post my disapointment about Amazon on the website that refered me to Amazon and also any other websites I get the chance to.

I am totally smitten by this TV. I know its not a 120HZ…But seriously, its an LCD 1080p. And its a SONY!!!!!!! These dont die out and it also have the bravia sync if I need later on…Both myself and my hubby and stuck to it from the time we have had it. The white glove service that delivers the TV is AWESOME! they unpack and assemble it …Start it , even connect it and check it to see if it works before they leave!! Totally Impressed.

I Purchased this TV from Amazon.com/Electronics Expo on 11-20-08, I couldn’t be happier with this great Sony HD set or the super fast shipping!! This TV was so easy to set up and use, we were watching it within 10 minutes of receiving it! The picture quality blew us away, it’s bright, sharp and beautiful!! This is the best bang for your buck!! This is a very substantial mount with Dual arms and over 30lbs of steel. The arms extend over 20″ from the wall yet fold to less than 5″. Even at full extension, this mount has very little sag or twist. It is rated for up to 180lbs and most displays 52″ and smaller weigh under 100lbs. The unit has 4 tilt adjustment knobs and two tilt adjustment screws and it will tilt forward or back 15 degrees. The wall plate is over 19″ wide and has wide slots making it easy to mount into standard 16″ studs even if they are not exactly 16″ apart. The TV plate is 32″ wide and the arms fold outward when pushed up against the wall. Thus, the TV plate and possibly the arms may be visible on the sides of 32″ units. The universal design will fit any display with a hole pattern up to 26.3″ wide and 18″ tall. 5 Stars Stout Wall Mount
Bought this mount for a Samsung LN46A750 46-Inch 1080p DLNA LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color also purchased at Amazon.

I was impressed with the sheer weight of this mount as it weighs nearly as much as the TV I mounted to it. It left me with the impression it could hold what it claims (165 lbs.). I weigh around 260 lbs. and leaned heavily on the empty mount after I put it on the wall (before attaching TV) and it didn’t budge.

Its appearance is somewhat stylish for what it is. I have it tilted out fairly well so there is quite a bit showing to any who enter the room, yet it blends w/ the back of the TV and looks professional.

The instructions were a bit flaky, but it got the point across as I was able to mount it and this was the first time I have installed a wall mount. Although, I do consider myself fairly intelligent and do DIY stuff all the time so I’m not new to such things.

The range of movement is awesome…this thing will move any which way you try and with a fair amount of ease. I didn’t mess with any “settings” as the instructions didn’t say much about any of the levers on it. It did what I wanted by default.

Altogether a good buy and I recommend this mount to anyone.

We bought this for our son. He installed it by himself and said he was very impressed with how solid it is. It allows the tv to be adjusted in several different directions and has a roller that levels the tv. He was very happy with it and said the quality was top notch.

3 Stars Dimension problems
The product description states the mount is 3.5 inches from the wall. This is true for the back part of the mount but when you include the hanging brackets that mount to the TV, the total distance from the wall to the back of the TV is about 4 and 5/8 inches. This causes me a problem since I am mounting the TV inside a cabinet that is only 8 inches deep – probably won’t work for me. Also, the mechanism works very hard. If I very slightly loosen the bolts on the arms, it works easier but then the mount becomes wobbly.

Also, when laying a straight edge across the back of the wall mounting plate, I discovered the plate is warped (at least 1/8 inch from edge to center).

Good concept but doesn’t quite perform.

Sits about 3inches away from wall. Avoid if you want a flush fit, but since you are looking for a mount with arms that is not an issue for you. This unit will NOT twist or bent under load. Feels strong yet wife can move the LCD without effort.

5 Stars I love this wall mount!!
I bought a 50″ Plasma and decided it would be best on my wall. I went looking through stores and found higher prices than this one and bulkier designs.

I love the articulating arms!! I can pull it away from the wall to access the wires, etc. and adjust the left to right tilt for best viewing. It seems very sturdy and has worked great for me the last six months.

It was easy enough to mount to the wall but if you are not good with tools seek experienced assistance. You will need someone to hold it up for you unless you are good at this sort of thing. The hardest part was hanging the TV and that was only due to the weight of it.

Note: Make sure you have wall studs with 16″ centers if mounting to drywall!! I bought it not realizing I had 24″ centers on that one wall. This caused me to mount it to a steel plate so it could get anchored to the studs (The 50″ TV weighed 125lbs!!)

Bought the Sony 40″ 1080P Z LCD running with PS3 over Monster 1000M HDMI. Verdict, Amazing Picture! Go ahead buy Wall-E BluRay and turn on the TVs Motion Enhancer on Standard or High. This is as close to 3D as you can get. Absolutey breath taking during the SpaceWalk scene.

LCD pix looks very good with HD TV and digital cable even looks better then regular 1080I TVs. Amazon is currently offering this TV at a huge discount. Buy this TV or its 46″ sister, and you will be happy. The TV on Vivid setting is very bright so you will need to have a very bright roon or manually tweak the custom setting. Also, TV comes with no cables, so you will need to buy high end cables for your HDTV and Blu Ray to get the perfect picture.

5 Stars The best price/value ratio and the best (period) total package now available
This TV has numerous advantages over the Samsung 6xx and 7xx series which it is often compared to. First off, the Samsung’s are fantastic TVs. The characteristics of the picture (color cast, primarily- which is different among makers- cool is cooler on one, neutral may be warmer on another and warm may be too warm for some viewers, etc.) should be judged by each individual viewer. There are some people who are going to like the Samsung’s picture better than the Sony’s, and vice versa.

That being said- I return to the advantages: Deep color and x.v. Color. Despite some spec sheets which show this set doesn’t have x.v. color, it does. It has both deep & x.v. color, and one can only imagine that the reason the Sony marketing department may have chosen to leave that off spec sheets after the TV had already been designed was to better differentiate their much more costly XBR series TVs. On the other hand, the engineering and cost marketing departments had obviously found advantages in maintaining a common BOM with their latest chipsets which also support their 120 Hz Bravia Engine 2, etc. These must be common among this Z-series Bravia and the ‘08 XBR offerings, in my estimation.

The most important differentiation between this Sony set and the Samsung competition may be the true 24 Hz (or 24 FPS) playback of 24 FPS blu-ray material. This makes the Sony standards-compliant on three important new standards for High-Def that the Samsung simply ignores. Add exceptional image quality and build quality (in my eyes)- and the Sony is a no-brainer for ~$200 more than the Samsung.

I have been surprised by the omission of these important facts from other reviews. I have had the TV for over a month and bought it on Amazon- and I couldn’t be happier. Of course their 48 month 0% financing deal also helped.

5 Stars Always beautiful
I have the 40 inch version and while the HD is amazing, I think where it will stand out to the average users is it’s ability to upscale standard definition signals. It does an amazing job. I have (non-HD) Dish Network (at least until AT&T’s U-verse is available on my block) and this set gives my Dish Network subscription a new lease on life.

The other killer feature is the ‘favorites’ button on the remote. It will allow you to select which input to view by a animated, ribbon like menu of icons (XBR) that you can somewhat customize. This makes it simple to change sources for those less likely to understand HDMI1, HDMI2, Component 1, Composite, etc.

Picture quality is flawless. The only thing it doesn’t have is…wait, it’s not missing anything. This costs more than most it’s size but it fits smaller spaces since the speakers are under the LCD and the frame around the LCD is less than 1 inch.

This set gave me the most bang for the space, not buck. It’s not the cheapest but I have no buyer’s remorse either – and I AM cheap.

Totally regret getting this. The A650 smokes it. Plus I have sparkles everywhere. Save your money for the A650 and a home theater system.
